She was the Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia, Philippines, UK and other countries. She was the First Secretary, Director and Counselor at the Department of Asia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1997, the Director General of Dept. of Asia, MFA from 2000 to 2003, and became the Deputy Foreign Minister in 2009. She is a Member of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, and the Director of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the NPC Standing Committee.
